The Legend of Eldermor
Stretching back to Celtic and Scandinavian roots, Eldermor is Queen of the Herbs. Her name meaning “Elder Mother,” she is also guardian of the forest. A fierce protectress, she is considered especially sacred and offerings must be given to harvest, cut or burn her branches. European farmers are known to still tip their hats in reverence to her each time they pass.
In her softer, nurturing side, she is also known as Queen of the Fairies. She is believed to dwell with the Elf King, the fairies and elves in the midst of the Elder tree which is her namesake.
The Elder tree provides an incredible amount of flowers and berries to serve as gentle, immune support for the whole family. A favorite of ours, Elder grows wild, abundant, vigorous and free, as so much medicine does. The spirit of Eldermor represents a major tenet of Eldermor Herbs ~ learning how to respect the sanctity, spirit and consciousness of the plants ~ in exchange for an abundant amount of free, natural medicine.
About Michelle Dionne
Originally from Pennsylvania, I attained my Bachelors Degree in Grassroots Social Movements from Penn State University in 1995. I continued my education by traveling abroad, often spending time in remote “Third World” areas learning about sustainable living, tribal culture, sacred dance and ceremony. Since 1998, I have been teaching sacred dance for healing and birth through The Mandorla.
In 2002, I moved to the mountains of western North Carolina and began my initiation with the plants, becoming the first apprentice of Corinna Wood, who then employed me as the medicine-maker for Red Moon Herbs. In 2011, I was hired by the SE Women’s Herbal Conference to coordinate the teen program. Few things thrill me more than witnessing young people connect and communicate with the plants. I currently live off-the-grid in the Appalachians with my sweetie and our 3 magnificent children ~ homeschooling, gardening, making medicine, dancing, continuously teaching and learning.
